FaLS is a small, independent organization by design. Here's who's behind it, and the story of how it got here.
FaLS began as a student-run firearms law group at a Tennessee law school, built around a simple idea: most people's confusion about gun law isn't political, it's informational. Statutes are public. Case law is public. Almost none of it is written for a normal reader.
As the group's focus sharpened — NFA regulation, Second Amendment doctrine, the practical mechanics of compliance — it outgrew the shape of a student club. The school wasn't set up to formally house an organization built around firearms advocacy and education, so rather than shrink the mission to fit the container, FaLS became its own independent project.
That's the honest version of the story, and we think it's a better one: not a club that lost its charter, but a project that grew past the size of a classroom.
The people, the standards, and the mission carried over intact. FaLS still does exactly what it did on day one — publish plain-language guides and track the unsettled corners of firearms law — just without a university's name attached to it.
Independence also means fewer constraints on what we can say and publish, and a direct line between the organization and the people it exists to serve.

FaLS is not affiliated with, or speaking on behalf of, any law school, bar association, or advocacy group. It answers to its own charter, not an institution's.
Daniel founded FaLS after hearing the same thing over and over at gun ranges and gun shops: people confidently repeating firearm law as fact — because someone said so on social media — when it was flatly wrong. Motivated by wanting safer, better-informed firearm owners, he started FaLS around one idea: advocacy through education. He's an Army veteran with a background in Psychological Operations and Aviation.
His view is straightforward: firearm laws and regulations are written in an overly complicated way, often in ways that conflict with each other. That causes confusion — confusion that gets amplified on social media and repeated at the range — and that's dangerous for the gun owner, for law enforcement, for the community, and for the country as a whole. FaLS exists to cut through that confusion and act as a resource that makes firearm ownership safer.
